Christmas Lights – Make Your Home Sparkle

Lights, lights everywhere! It must be Christmas time. Towns and cities will have had their annual ‘Christmas light switch on’ which brightens streets and adds a touch of festive cheer – trees are covered with fairy lights and rooftops too (we’ve even got some in the Shoetique office)!

Neighbours will often compete with each other and decorate their houses and gardens with lit up reindeers and ‘stop here’ signs so Santa can find them! There is something so magical and memorising about lights and they certainly make you aware that it’s Christmas time.

We wanted to put together some of the best Christmas light displays that we have seen to inspire you to get creative this year and put some up yourselves, (if you haven’t already)!

How do you decorate the interior of your house at Christmas? Do you keep it simple, or go wild and have an explosion of Christmas covering every inch of your home? Are you a fan of coloured lights or white lights and how bold is your Christmas tree? Some of you will have already decorated your homes making them look like winter wonderlands but if you haven’t (or if you want to add more Christmas magic) take some inspiration from the most festive interior designs we can find!

If you love looking at Christmas lights then there are a few great places to visit that have fantastic displays.

Westonbirt Arboretum – Tetbury, Gloucestershire
Every year, a different mile long trail is lit up for visitors to walk around and explore the wintery magic. There are interactive elements along the way, great for kids and plenty of incredible illuminations!

Standen, West Sussex
The garden of lights at Standen tells the story of the Nutcracker through music words and lights! It’s a really fun trip for the kids.

Kew Gardens, London
Visitors are able to walk along the mile long illuminated trail through the gardens interacting with light sound and the surroundings. A circle of fire and a gorgeous shimmering lake are some of the highlights that you can expect to see and for the kids there is a mystery to solve along the mile walk.

Lights really do transform the inside and outside of your home from ordinary to magical! Drape them across windows, on mantelpieces and on your tree for a super cosy Christmas feel.
