DIY Home Scents

This week at Shoetique, we have been putting together a few recipes for DIY home scents to make sure your house is always smelling fresh! Whether you are aware of it or not, your house has a unique smell. It often goes unnoticed because you become so familiar with it, but to others the scent of your home is very apparent. Think about your friends; they will have a signature scent which usually depends on the fragrance they wear or the washing powder they use and when you smell it, you think of them. Recreate your homes signature scent with these easy and fun tips for gorgeous smelling rooms, without the cost or chemicals of air fresheners and plug ins.

What You’ll Need: – Clean jam jar/Kilner jar – Sauce Pan – Water – Any fruits, herbs and spices that you enjoy the smell of and – Extracts (Vanilla, almond etc.)

Method

– Cut up fruits and place in a sauce pan. Add herbs, extracts and spices

– Fill the sauce pan ¾ full of water and bring to a boil

– As soon as it reaches the boil, turn the heat down and let it simmer

– You can either carefully transfer the liquid in to jars and place around the home, or simmer In the pan until the scent reaches all rooms

Our favourite recipes

Gingerbread Man – 5 ¼ inch slices of ginger, 1 tablespoon almond extract, 3 cinnamon sticks

Mint Tea – 2 sliced limes, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Caribbean Dream – 1 tablespoon coconut extract, 1 sliced lime

Orange Cream – 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 sliced orange

Autumn Wonderland – 1 sliced orange, 5 cinnamon sticks, 2 tablespoons cloves
