In 1897, in a small German village, the local shoemaker’s grandson developed an idea which would literally change the shape of footwear. His name was Konrad Birkenstock. Konrad noticed that the insides of a shoe were always flat even though our feet are not. He decided that for maximum comfort a shoe should reflect the shape of a foot. Soon after, he designed the first shoe with a contoured insole which would be put inside of his grandfather’s handmade shoes. He took this idea one step further in 1964 and developed a shoe with the contoured insole built in. TheBirkenstock sandal was born! We stock some great styles of these sandals, from thong sandals and open-toe slip-ons to adjustable buckle straps there is a style to suit everyone, which all offer the same tremendous comfort.
